Roewe's Sharp Looking N1 Compact Sedan Debuts in Shanghai

April 21, 2009
Now here's a proposal from China that could very well be accepted in terms of styling from Western car buyers. SAIC's renamed Rover division, Roewe, that owns the tooling rights to the Rover 75 and 25, unveiled the N1 Concept car at the Shanghai Auto Show. The N1 is in essence a thinly disguised version of the planned production model that is set to go on sale in China next year. The compact-sized sedan that will sit below the 550 in Roewe's vehicle line-up will be offered with various four-cylinder gasoline engines.

MG6 Turbo: First Photos of China-Made MG Rover Liftback

April 18, 2009
At the center of MG's stage at next week's Shanghai Auto Show will be the all-new MG6 Turbo. The midsize five-door liftback is based on the platform and the mechanics of sister company Roewe's 550 sedan which in turn uses the underpinnings of the Rover 75 that was developed back in the late 1990's when the MG Rover Group belonged to BMW. The MG6 is powered by an upgraded version of Rover's K-series 1.8-liter turbocharged engine.

Speculation has it that the MG brand, which now belongs to China's SAIC Group along with Roewe, plans to sell the MG6 initially in the UK as early as 2010, and if all goes well, to the rest of Europe.

April 17, 2009
And the news just keeps rolling in from China and the Shanghai Auto Show that runs from April 20 to 28. Roewe, which if you still haven't heard, is SAIC's premium auto brand that owns the tooling rights to the Rover 75, will be presenting a new variant of its British designed and engineered, 550 compact-sized sedan called Sports Edition. There's no information on what may be hiding under the hood - if there are any upgrades at all, but the sleek Chinese sedan does get a contrasting black bodykit with front and rear aprons, boot lid spoiler, side skirts and a set of chunkier alloy wheels.

Roewe N1: Rover's Chinese Heir to Present new Concept Study at Shanghai Show

April 6, 2009
Chinese state-owned SAIC Motors that bought the rights to the Rover 25 and 75 models in late 2004, will introduce a new concept study under the Roewe brand called N1 at this month's 2009 Shanghai Auto Show. Aside from a teaser sketch that was published on its official website, the Chinese automaker has not released any details on the N1 Concept. Currently, Roewe's portfolio consists of the Rover 75 based 750 and the designed and engineered in Britain 550 compact sedan that made its premiere at last year's Beijing Auto Show.

2009 Roewe 550: MG Rover’s Successor Unveils New Sedan

April 17, 2008
A while ago we showed the first images of Roewe’s new compact sedan called 550. Today, the Chinese automaker, which acquired the rights to build MG-Rover cars from the Brits in 2005, released a whole bunch of pictures of the 550. Despite the fact that 550’s exterior design has been inspired from a variety of cars including the VW Passat and the Lexus IS, we must admit that its styling is more than decent.

Same goes for the sedan’s interior even though from what we know, Roewe did not acquire the rights from BMW to imitate its dashboard design… Still, we think you’ll agree with us when we say that the 550’s cabin looks a whole much better than many Japanese, Korean and American cars. The 550 will be available in China later on this year equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine while exports are expected to begin towards the end of 2008. –Click through for more images

2009 Roewe 550: It’s Not a VW Passat – Seriously...

March 27, 2008
Chinese carmaker Roewe who acquired the rights to build MG-Rover cars from the dismantled British automaker in 2005, is getting ready to introduce its second sedan model after the Rover 75 derived 750E at the Beijing Auto Show this April. The Roewe 550 is the production model of the impressive –for Chinese standards that is- W2 concept car that made its debut at last year’s Shanghai Auto Show.

Sadly, Roewe’s design team decided to make a few changes to the W2’s styling and in particular, they totally redesigned the front end which now looks like a VW Passat that obtained braces. Why? –More pictures after the jump

Roewe SUV: Chinese Rover Going Offroad?

December 3, 2007
While Rover might have never managed to create an SUV of its own, its Chinese offspring, the SAIC owned Roewe that has the rights to manufacture the former Rover 25 and 75 models, is looking into creating one. We’re not sure whether these photos featuring a slightly redesigned version of the SsangYong Kyron SUV are real or simply the work of some photoshop artist, but from what we’ve heard, Roewe will introduce its first SUV model sometime in 2008. -More pics after the jump
