Mercedes-Benz Recalls 9,004 Diesel-Powered Models in the States

More than 9,000 owners of Mercedes-Benz diesel-powered vehicles are about to receive a recall note in their mail this month. Specifically, Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 9,004 MY 2007 E-Class, GL-Class, M-Class and R-Class vehicles equipped with diesel engines because of a faulty crankshaft sensor.

The crankshaft sensor could fail due to separation of bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor. When this happens, the vehicle may lose power rather than enter a limp-home mode. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the risk of a crash. MB dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor free of charge.
